The Fiss imperial barley

Today we have prepared exciting information for you about a very special local grain variety: Fiss imperial barley.

We at the Sonnenterrasse, the Appartement Fiss and the Ferienwohnung Fiss, have grown the Fiss imperial barley ourselves and would like to introduce you to our own recipe for a tasty strawberry-barley muesli!

The advantages of Fiss imperial barley

  • The Fiss imperial barley is undemanding and extremely resistant to pests
  • Ideal for achieving a high-yield harvest at 1400 meters
  • is one of the oldest cereals of all
  • the barley was even exported as far as North and South America (1930 to the 1960s)

Barley impresses with its extra high protein content and unmistakable taste.

In addition to the well-known barley soup, muesli and risotto are also cooked, bread is baked and now even whiskey, barley brandy and beer are made from it.

We at Appartement Fiss, the Fiss vacation apartment, are delighted with our own harvest.

And now for the preparation of the promised muesli recipe:

Strawberry and barley muesli recipe:

150 g Fisser imperial barley
250 g fresh or frozen strawberries
150 g natural yogurt
1 sachet of vanilla sugar

Wash the barley in a fine sieve and then boil in water for about an hour. Then leave to cool. Fold the strawberries into the barley, then add the yogurt. Season the muesli with vanilla sugar.

Tip: The barley can be cooked the day before and kept refrigerated. Then just stir in the remaining ingredients in the morning and your delicious muesli is ready.

For gourmets: The strawberry muesli also tastes great when toasted flaked almonds are added.

We at Sonnenterrasse Fiss, your vacation apartment in Fiss, wish you lots of enjoyment while tasting the Fiss imperial barley!
