Recipe idea baked apple with marzipan from our Appartement Fiss: a warming treat from Tyrolean cuisine
When the days get shorter and the first snow transforms the Tyrolean Alps into a glittering winter wonderland, it’s time for a real culinary classic that no pre-Christmas kitchen in our vacation apartment in Fiss should be without: baked apples with marzipan. This traditional recipe sweetens up the cold days and brings warmth and coziness to every home.
A feast of flavors in the oven
Baked apples are a real highlight of the Tyrolean Advent season. The combination of juicy, tart apples and sweet marzipan is not only a treat for the palate, but also a feast for the senses. Surrounded by a hint of cinnamon and the sophisticated aroma of rum-soaked raisins, this simple dessert transforms any coffee table into a festive gathering.
Ingredients for your baked apple:
- 2 tbsp raisins and 3 tbsp rum
- 4 tart apples (e.g. Boskop)
- 100 g marzipan
- 2 tbsp soft butter
- 1 sachet vanilla sugar
- 1 tbsp honey and ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 egg (size M)
- 100 g slivered almonds
- 1 tbsp cornflour
Preparation – How to make the baked apple:
- Prepare the raisins: Start by soaking the raisins in rum. To do this, mix the raisins with the rum in a small bowl and leave to infuse for an hour. This mixture will later become the centerpiece of your baked apples.
- Prepare the apples: Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (fan oven 160 degrees). Wash the apples and pat them dry. Then cut off the lid and stem to the thickness of a thumb and set aside. Carefully core the apples, leaving a hole of approx. 2-3 cm. Place the apples in a greased baking dish.
- Mix the filling: Roughly grate the marzipan and mix it with the soft butter and vanilla sugar. Whisk everything until smooth and add the egg. Add the honey, cinnamon, almonds and cornflour and mix well. Finally, fold in the rum raisins.
- Fill the apples: Fill the prepared apples with the marzipan mixture. Use a piping bag or a teaspoon for this. First bake the apples in the oven for 10 minutes, then put the lids on and leave everything to bake for another 15 minutes.
Serve the baked apples warm and with a fine vanilla sauce. This heavenly treat not only makes children’s hearts beat faster, but also enchants the palate of every adult.
